Born in the priest family, Solomiya Krushelnytska was linked to Ukrainian folk culture from the very childhood. In 1891 – 1893 from a small village near Ternopil she came to Lviv to study in Lviv Conservatory and then continued her studies in Italy by famous italian professors. Here she grew as classic opera singer (soprano). Krushelnytska became world famous after performing the leading role in Giacomo Puccini's "Madame Butterfly" in Brescia. That event opened the door of European Opera Houses for Ukrainian singer. For its 100th anniversary, the Lviv Opera in 2000 was named in honor of Salome Krushelnytska.
