Day 2. Odessa - Guided City Tour
During a detailed guided tour you will discover the most important monuments, the most beautiful corners, angles and backyards of the formerly free trading city Odessa. The world-famous Odessa Opera (designed by the Viennese architecture firm Helmer & Fellner), the Potemkin Stairs or a conglomeration of various architectural styles in the magnificent Deribasivska Street, the most popular entertainment street of Odessa with many boutiques, cafes and bars. What makes really high-quality impressions is the fact that Odessa is surrounded by winegrowing, champagne and brandy factories, as well as an abundant range of the Ukrainian, Russian, Georgian, Moldavian and Jewish culinary highlights. You will visit the original Shustov Cognac Winery Museum of cognac production followed by cognac tasting. The late afternoon and evening will be at your free disposal.
Day 3. Odessa and its Surroundings
Today you can continue exploring Odessa independently, go swimming or take any of 2 educational trips
Excursion to the Odessa Catacombs
With a total length of 2500 kilometers, they surpass mane times over the famous catacombs of Rome (300 km) and Paris (500 km).
The catacombs consist of several types of underground caves, which are sometimes closely connected.
Basically, there are old underground quarries from which the sandstone used to be promoted as a building material. This block was needed to construct the buildings in the city. Later, the catacombs were used particularly during World War II by partisans; you will gain more information while visiting Museum of Partisan Glory
Full-day trip to Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi - Akkerman fortress
This extremely interesting town is about 100 km south from Odessa on the banks of the mouth of the Dniester. The journey through the lush green landscape and partly along the sea is very exciting and engaging. With its 2,500-year history, Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Here you will visit the ruins of the mighty Genoese-Turkish fortress Akkerman, which is rising like a mountain on the banks of the Dniester. On the way back, you will visit the winery Shabo, where the Swiss and French settled down in 1822. You will see the winery, the museum and, of course, there is a delicious wine tasting.
Back to Odessa – what we recommend you for the evening is:
- to take a nice boat trip on the Black Sea (duration - 1.5 h). You can reach the point of departure from the port, going from the hotel on foot beneath the Potemkin Stairs.
- to use the opportunity and to attend an event in the "Academic National Theater of Opera and Ballet" in Odessa and to enjoy a pleasant and excellent atmosphere in this Opera House. You can also schedule a detailed internal inspection of the opera (duration app. 45h).
